College is becoming more and more expensive. The cost is moving up, but equally important should be knowledge of parents and how to deal with ever increasing cost of college. Parents and their college bound kids should have access to the best available financial options.
Based on my many years of presentations in California to parents and their college bound kids, I have noticed that the most important item is to first educate them about all the financial aids available to them. This covers both Financial Aid and non-Financial Aid candidates and includes federal aid, state aid, scholarships, and explains all the related expenses. In 2024, the average tuition and fees for a public 2 year was about $4000. In 2023, the average cost of attendance for in-state students was $27,940, with tuition and fees accounting for $10,940. Out-of-state students paid about $28,240 per year in tuition and fees for a total cost of attendance of over $45000.
